Martin Luther King JR by JOSHUA

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a great man of peace. He was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. When he was young, his life was happy and bad. One time two of his friends couldn’t play with him anymore because he had different skin color. Dr. King was an important man because he would fight and fight with words until he got what he wanted for Civil Rights. Dr. King told everybody to march to Washington DC. where he gave his “I Have a Dream” speech. On April 4, 1968 Dr. King was shot with a rifle. Dr. King was a great leader.

Harriet Tubman by: Janelle

Harriet Tubman was a brave leader. She was born in 1820. Slaves were people owned by other people. Harriet Tubman escaped slavery in 1849. She helped many people become free using the Underground Railroad. Tubman died in 1913. She was a important leader because she was a very good person.

Abraham Lincoln by: Ashley

I am writing about Abraham Lincoln because he was a brave leader. Lincoln was born in 1809. He and his family were pioneers who lived on farms in Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois. When he was young he didn’t go to school he learned how to read. In his speeches Lincoln said that slavery went against Americans tradition of freedom. When Lincoln was president there was a Civil War because the states were fighting about slaves. Abraham Lincoln died when the war ended. A man called John Wilkes Booth shot him. Abraham was an important president because he stopped slavery.

Frederick Douglass by : Jessika

Frederick Douglass was a great speaker. Douglass was born in 1818. He lived in Maryland as a slave. Slaves were not allowed to be taught. He escaped to the north because some northern states did not have slaves. Douglass worked with Abraham Lincoln. He was a great leader and Douglass spoke against slavery. Frederick Douglass died in 1895. Frederick Douglass was a leader.

Frederick Douglass was a brave leader. He was born in 1818 and lived in Maryland as a slave. Slaves couldn’t go to school. Douglass escaped slavery by going to the north when he was an adult. He met President Lincoln and they worked together to end slavery. Frederick Douglass died in 1895. Frederick was a great hero and believed all people should be free.

3rd Trimester Awards

On Tuesday, second grade classes met to pass out awards for the third trimester. Students who accumulated 20 or more points on Accelerated Reader received metals and certificates.
